Well, it has been a long time since I last posted. I have decided that in order to keep myself posting I should post about my viewpoints instead of actual events. I believe that this way, as long as I can think of anything, I will have something to write about. Today will be the beginning of actual ranting instead of storytelling. I really do hope it is interesting.
Television
One thing that really annoys me is the crap on TV as of late. It seems any jackass with a camera and a shitty idea can come along and make a TV show. The only plus side to this is that these guys have no idea how to remain on TV. No longer is TV at an age where shows exist with more intelligent humor. I remember when I was younger (Oh so very long ago) there were shows like Seinfeld that actually required an IQ point or two to understand every single joke. Of course, Roseanne had a show back then too, so I guess things weren't much better. Sadly, dispite the popularity of Seinfeld, it too fell into history.
Another great show from a few years back was Sports Night. I love that show. Of course, I now own the entire series on DVD's, but I would give almost anything to have that show make new episodes. That is impossible now, but it would still be nice. That show was entertaining on some level higher than any show can imagine. It delighted every sense in the human body. I could actually taste how good it was. Its ultimate demise came from it not fitting in with a category. Was it a drama? Was it a comedy? Nobody really knew, and if people were smart, nobody would have cared. Instead, television gave it no proper slot. It was not a comedy so it could not go in any of the 6:30-8:00 timeslots with all the brainless sitcoms, yet it was not a drama either so you can't put it up against the 8:00-9:00 murder mysteries and hospital soap operas. It is a damn shame. If I had the money, I would have bought that show its own network and it could show 24 hours a day. Sure it would get old, but at least it would be on TV.
One show that has lasted from my childhood to my adult life is the Simpsons. Love it or hate it, the show just won't die. There is only one thing in my mind that explains this show's survival: its ability to adapt to any viewer. Sure, not everyone watches or likes the Simpsons. There are people that really wouldn't shed a tear if Homer fell asleep and the Springfield Nuklear Power Plant exploded killing everyone (except Krusty, who would probably be out of town and somehow bring the entire community back. That guy just won't die). But the Simpsons has humor on so many levels. It has senseless violence and dumb humor to make simple-minded people laugh. It has its cliche catch prases and random outbursts of nonsense. Somehow, somwhere deep inside that madness lies intelligent humor. Now, it is not Frasier or Sports Night level humor IQ, but subtlely, it keeps people interested.
Frankly, I don't care if Bart tells someone, "Eat my shorts" or Homer shouts "Doh!" Those phrases do not make me laugh or even let out a smirk and a bit of a chuckle. I laugh because the Simpsons stick with the old jokes whilst constantly changing and becoming a new show every episode. That is how they lasted. I believe the Simposons is a show that will last the ages. All mankind will die out; plagues will dwindle the species to a few dozen and anarchy will rampage the streets, but somewhere, somehow, there will be a television somewhere tuned to FOX, and there we will see Homer with his large yellow hands clamped securely around Bart's fragile little neck and a child will be smiling and giggling. What a great world we live in. That's all I have for now.
