0 comments :: Wednesday, July 02, 2003 :: Okay, so I get home at about 1:00 from work and the hanging out thereafter. I come to my room to find that the light is shut off and the door closed, which isn't supposed to be the case normally. Well, the light is usually off when I'm not home, but it is set so that when I turn the switch the light doesn't come on, you know. I have to go pull the hangy thing on it to make it come on. Upon doing so, I see my older sister in the other bed in my room. For those of you who haven't ever been in my room, there's two beds. I don't know why, there just are. Anyway, so I go ahead and get on the computer anyway, by this time it's about 1:30, and I discover that AIM won't connect, and following that, I see that I can't load up any sites either. Beginning to get pissed off, I check my connection on this computer, and the router is sending me a strong signal, so that isn't the problem, so I sprint downstairs to look at the modem. Looking at it, two lights are blinking simultaneously while a third remains on at all times, which indicates it isn't getting a signal. I do everything under my power to fix the problem incase it was a problem on my part, but nothing worked so I knew my good buddies over at SIGECOM are doing shit to their stuff. I'm sure that's the technical way of putting what they were doing. The actually have big computers labeled "stuff" and they were installing a program called S.H.I.T.(Stuff that Hides the Internet from Tim). Anyway, so I decide to do the one other thing there is to do at now 2:15 in the morning, and that's watch ESPNews back-to-back-to-back. It isn't that exciting, which is why it is my backup. Anyway, I'm watching that and I am hoping that the soccer channel works, although it hardly ever does. For some reason, the one channel I would watch regularly is the one channel that we get a horrible connection to. It wasn't working, but I noticed that "Enemy at the Gates" was on, and that was a pretty good movie so I decide to watch that instead, but as the channel changed something magical happened. The screen went blank and the cablebox shut off. Then, it started back up as if it had been unplugged. The clock said 12:00 and then fixed itself seconds later and I knew exactly what had happened.... SIGECOM had reset their system. This could only mean one thing: They were done installing shit on their stuff! I sprint to the modem to see it is receiving a proper signal and then sprint upstairs to my room and find the connection to be beautiful. I almost wanted to cry. Yes, my life is sad enough that when the internet works it makes me that happy. My sister now wants me to leave because I am being too noisy for typing this up. In her half-asleep state she first asked me if I was actually typing stuff or just pushing random buttons. Apparently when she is on the computer, one of her favorite pasttimes is pushing random buttons. Anyway, I just wanted to share my story with the rest of the world. And it seems nobody else wants to post, so I will do so for any reason that I can think of.
